The ALPHA Centre is open for adults and young adults who want to learn or improve their knowledge of a foreign language.
The ALPHA Centre issues a Certificate of attendance upon course completion.

We offer foreign language courses in:

we provide free placement and diagnostic tests for language course enrolment

we provide a CEFR- based self-assessment grid for establishing the current language level and learning goals

language teaching, learning and assessment have been adapted in line with the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR)

Self Assessment

To increase the effectiveness of your language learning, it is very important that you are fully aware of your current level of linguistic proficiency (strengths and weaknesses), and that you pursue very specific and feasible learning goals. For this purpose, we strongly recommend that you use the self-assessment grid by dowloading the pdf files posted here for each linguistic competence, listening, reading, conversation, speaking, and writing, and fill them out, according to the instructions included therein. The self-assessment grid is based on both the CEFR (Common European Framework for Languages) and ELP (European Language Portfolio) scales and descriptors. To move from your current CEFR level to the next 90 (A1, A2, B1) to 120 (B2, C1, C2) study hours are required. After registration, your self-assessment will be followed by a placement test which is which is mandatory for everyone who has indicated upon registration any of the CEFR language levels A1 – C2. At the pre-course meeting you will thus be able to discuss and set the learning goals together with the other participants and your course instructor. Completing the self-assessment-grid will enable you to make informed decisions throughout this stage.

Students are required to fully pay the course fee before the first class, or in two 50% instalments : one paid before the first class, and the second before mid-course. For groups of 5 to 6 students the course fee has to be fully paid at the beginning of the course.

by money order from your own Romanian bank account or by postal order from a Romanian post office, payable to Centrul ALPHA-UBBCluj , account number (IBAN): RO35TREZ21620F330500XXXX, fiscal code: 4305849, open at Trezoreria Cluj Bank.

Once we have received sufficient applications to form a course group, we will contact you and make you a course fee offer based on the estimated group size.
The course group is instituted only if at the first course meeting all the applicants who have accepted our offer bring the payment receipt of course fee. As prices depend on the number of course participants, and one cancellation can increase the rate for the remaining students, if you drop out anytime after the first meeting, your course fee will not be refunded. Those who fail to pay the second 50% instalment will no longer gain access to classes after mid-course, and the course fee for the second instalment may have to be recalculated for the remaining students. If the remaining students do not accept the recalculated half-course fee, the course will be cancelled and the second instalment, or 50% of full payment, will be refunded.
