Department of Romanian Language and General Linguistics
Research domains
My fields of interest in philology concern general linguistics, sociolinguistics, Romance linguistics, linguistic historiography, and the teaching of Romanian language to foreign students. Taking as a theoretical and methodological basis the theory / linguistic conception of Eugeniu Coşeriu, I work with the application of his methodology principles in the field of semantics and sociolinguistics. Also, an important area of my specialization refers to the history and current status of the Romanian language in the Republic of Moldova. All these features are seen / found in my studies and publications.
My PhD thesis, coordinated by Prof. PhD. Mircea Borcilă, is named Linguistics and ideology. My work Reception of Eugeniu Coseriu’s work in the former USSR describes the impact of the Marxist ideology on language science and the strategies of assimilation and takeover of Western linguistics, of which Coseriu’s work is a typical example. Starting from these bases, I also dealt with the acceptance of F. de Saussure’s concept in the Eastern European countries, as well as the translation of the General Linguistics Course into those languages.
I have been granted several research intnerships in Spain and Germany; my scientific work is directed towards the Linguistic School of Tubingen, founded by E. Coseriu.
I have been part of several international projects and have taught Romanian at the University of Prague, the University of Naples, and I currently work at the Pontifical Oriental Institute (Vatican). The impact of Christian religion on European languages is also an aspect that I am interested about.
As president of the Cultural-Scientific Association E. Coseriu, I organized several editions of the Summer School of Linguistics, as well as the 2nd International Congress Eugeniu Coseriu, being co-editor of the volumes with the works of the Congress.
