In September 2017 eight students of the Department of Ethnology and Hungarian Anthropology and two doctoral students of the Doctoral School of Hungarology Studies participated in a one-week ethnographic practice in Budapest and Szentendre.
In the first two days of the week, with the help of Lajos Kemecsi, Director General of the Ethnographic Museum (Budapest), they had possibility to inspect the institution’s everyday life and get acquainted with the museum’s great plans for the future. Among the program points were visits to restorers’ workshops, lectures by experts, as well as visits to various deposits with a detailed presentation. Students could also see the current museum exhibitions.
During the four days spent at Szentendre, the multi-faceted activities of the Hungarian Open Air Museum, students were recognized the basic knowledge of art protection, digitalization innovations, heard lectures about the museums` sectoral tasks and events, institutional communication, and muzeo-pedagogical activities. The students also participated in guided tours at the two exhibitions of the museum, and in two ethnographic regions built, which were kept by the curator and those responsible for the region.
We would like to thank the host institutions for their hospitality and cooperation!
