Research domains:
In a broader sense, my area of expertise is the history of Hungarian literature of the second half of the 19th century. More specifically I have been studying primarily the history of literary and theatre criticism, as well as the history of theatre and universities of the era. I am particularly interested in the aspects of social embeddedness of literature, the history of literary institutions, the intellectual history. The socio-historical (history of professionalisation and system theory) methods used during my research activity somehow led to genre-historical issues: the study of the genres of folk drama, verse novel or the epic. This is how I started researching the history of the literary criticism, the genre of the highest importance for me. Philological research activities, such as discovering new sources, making less well-known sources widely available and interpreting them from the point of view of the history of literature are an important part of my research activity, as I am firmly convinced that philological exploratory research is a fundamental task for literary historians, that might result in offsetting, in many aspects, the way we currently think about the literature of the 19th century.
