Biography

Alina Preda (Ph.D. Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca 2006) is Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, where she has been teaching since 1997. In 1997 she obtained a Teacher Training Certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults from International House London. In 1998 she was the recipient of an Open Society Institute and Foreign Commonwealth Office grant that allowed her to study at St Hilda’s College, Oxford. Thus, in 1999, she received from Oxford University, England a Certificate of Studies for doing Research in Linguistics and the Philosophy of Language. Alina Preda’s research interests include English Syntax, Formal Semantics, Discourse Analysis, Psycholinguistics, Stylistics and Translation Studies, Cultural and Gender Studies, as well as Contemporary English Literature. Dr. Preda is an active member of The Centre for Research of the Contemporary British Novel and, since 2010, she has been a referee for Philobiblon – Transylvanian Journal for Multidisciplinary Research in Humanities.
Dr. Preda is the author of several books, of which the most recent, A Synoptic Outline of Phrasal Syntax and Clausal Syntax and Interferences: On Gender and Genre, were published in 2013, both with Argonaut Publishing House. Her articles have been published in many academic journals including Philobiblon – Transylvanian Journal for Multidisciplinary Research in Humanities, Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai, and Transylvanian Review.
