Ştefan Oltean (Ph.D., Babeș-Bolyai University, 1984) is full profesor in the Departament of English, Faculty of Letters, Babeș-Bolyai University. He has taught classes in historical and comparative linguistics, truth-conditional and possible world semantics, generative linguistics, pragmatics, and narrative discourse.
He has promoted contemporary approaches to the study of language (generative linguistics, truth-conditional and possible world semantics, pragmatics, linguistic poetics), as well as comparative and historical linguistics, whose frameworks he has applied to the analysis of linguistic / discursive phenomena at the synchronic level (free indirect discourse, truth in fiction, fictional worlds, proper names, fictional names, verbs of propositional attitude, the semantics of questions and exclamations, the generative syntax of English, comparative syntax, multilingualism), or at the diachronic level (English historical syntax, comparative grammar of Germanic languages).
