On November 4, 2022, as part of the project POCU/626/6/13/130584 Smart! Student for Future! A complex internship program for students of the Faculties of History and Philosophy, Letters, and Psychology aimed at labor market integration, Dr. Anca Bodzer was invited as a guest speaker in a Zoom webinar. Dr. Bodzer is a graduate of the Faculty of Letters (English-Spanish), holds a Master’s degree in Intercultural Communication, Public Service Translation and Interpreting (University of Alcalá de Henares – Spain), and earned a PhD in Translation Studies from the same university.
The webinar was entitled “The Professional Journey.” For an hour and a half, Dr. Bodzer – currently Senior Project Manager in Localization at Lionbridge Madrid and volunteer Universities Manager at Women in Localization – shared her career path from graduation to her current position with students, mentors, and project coordinators.
She spoke about her academic experience as an Assistant Professor at the University of Alcalá de Henares and her extensive work in the private sector. She is also a sworn translator authorized by both the Romanian Ministry of Justice and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the end of the session, participants had the opportunity to ask questions, which she answered with warmth and enthusiasm.
On October 21, 2022, another webinar within the same project was held on Zoom, with guest speaker Ada Baboi, a PhD candidate at the Doctoral School of Political Science and Communication at UBB.
The topic of the meeting was “Research in the PhD Writing Process,” and the session lasted one hour. Ada Baboi, a graduate of the Faculty of Letters (Spanish-English), presented her career trajectory in both the private and academic sectors in Bucharest and Cluj, with an emphasis on her current doctoral research. The session concluded with a Q&A segment.
On July 15, 2022, Dr. Carmen Candale, editor at the Academia Publishing House in Bucharest, joined another webinar from the same project.
The event, titled “The Work of an Editor: Challenges and Rewards,” took place at 6 p.m. on Zoom. Dr. Candale is a graduate of the Faculty of Letters (Spanish-English), holds a Master’s in Multilingual and Multicultural Communication, and earned a PhD in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Bucharest.
She introduced participants to the history, structure, and key publications of the publishing house, explained editorial correction symbols, and spoke about her professional experience. A Q&A session followed, with questions answered kindly and professionally.
On May 20, 2022, a webinar was held on Zoom titled “The Work of a Sworn Translator – Between Myth and Reality.” The guests were sworn translators Ana Bogdan (graduate of Applied Modern Languages – Spanish-English) and Monica Chindriș (graduate of Spanish and French Literature).
They discussed the authorization process by the Ministry of Justice, legal structures like sole proprietorships and limited liability companies, their pros and cons, CAT tools, continuous professional development, and working with translation agencies both domestically and internationally. They answered participant questions thoroughly, offering real-world insights.
On March 18, 2022, Andreea Pușcaș, a scientific researcher at the “Sextil Pușcariu” Institute of Linguistics and Literary History in Cluj-Napoca, was the guest of the webinar.
The event, titled “Scientific Research – Between Duty and Fulfillment,” lasted an hour and a half. Ms. Pușcaș is a graduate of the Faculty of Letters (Spanish-English) and a former PhD student of the Doctoral School of Philology in Cluj.
She presented the structure and ongoing projects of the institute, with a focus on the Dictionary of the Romanian Language (DLR), in which she is involved. The event ended with an open Q&A session.
On November 26, 2021, Camelia Oană, a sworn translator and interpreter, gave a talk. She graduated from Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu (English-German) and holds a Master’s in Conference Interpreting (English-Spanish) from Babeș-Bolyai University.
After her studies, she completed an internship at the European Central Bank and has since worked as a freelancer in Romania. She discussed career paths for language graduates, authorization and company registration processes, ethical issues, and the skills needed in the profession. The Q&A covered legal topics and translation networks.
On November 12, 2021, Ciprian Dumea, a translator at the European Parliament, spoke about his daily tasks, including press releases, podcast transcription, and creating informative content. He is a graduate of the Applied Modern Languages program and holds a Master’s in Terminology and Translation Studies from UBB.
On October 18, 2021, Virginia Raluca Petric, HR Specialist at SIG Combibloc and a graduate of Applied Modern Languages, gave a two-hour webinar titled “The Job Interview.” She spoke about core competencies, employer expectations, and tips for presenting oneself effectively. The session ended with a Q&A.
Between June 10 and 12, 2021, Babeș-Bolyai University hosted an event dedicated to its alumni: UBB Alumni Days.The aim was to strengthen the bond between the university and its former students, offer a space for reunions, and encourage the exchange of academic memories.
The hybrid format included both on-site and online activities, with highlights such as the Alumni Gala, AlumniTalks, interactive virtual content, and free family access to the Botanical Garden and Babeș Park on Saturday, June 12.
